Mt. Airy Homeschooling Co-op
Building a Diverse, Secular, Inclusive Community
We're a community of people who want to support one another. We have flexible options for participation (both full and part time), payment plans, and diversity trainings that influence classes. We aim to create an environment where diverse students and families are valued, respected, and affirmed.
Before Covid, we scheduled a 1 hour break after first period and a 45 minute break after second. That gives kids plenty of time to play with friends or relax. Kids can use breaks to eat as they feel hungry and get some energy out before returning to class.
Right now, we offer classes on Zoom on Tuesdays with lots of breaks in between and meet-ups (both in person and online) that can be scheduled by adults and occur at any time. In April and May, there is an option to meet for in person gatherings on Fridays with structured and learning and playtime.
Our facilitators offer fun, engaging classes that aren't like traditional school. Past classes include candy-making, cooking with herbs, improv, broadway performance, watercolors, programming, book clubs, sports, and so much more! Each offering is unique and shaped to meet the interests of the students. Facilitators include co-op members and expert teachers from beyond our community. Some are academic while others build life skills or are just for fun.
